The wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has been told to register her activist group, "Liberty Central," with the Virginia Office of Consumer Affairs. The group received this directive after the state of Virginia found out that the group was raising money without having registered.
Mrs. Thomas claims that the group will not actively target political races but that it will keep "score cards" of various candidates in regards to certain issues. A cursory review of opinions from legal experts shows a split of opinion as to whether Justice Thomas may have a conflict of interest in cases involving parties that donate to his wife's group.
